On Sunday 7 December, Blackpool’s iconic promenade was awash with festive cheer as 2,220 Santas took part in the annual Santa Dash, raising over £60,000 for Brian House Children’s Hospice.
Since its inception in 2015, the Santa Dash has become a beloved tradition, marking the start of the festive season for many. Participants of all ages, including families and even four-legged friends, donned their Santa suits and braved the brisk sea air to support a cause close to the community’s heart.
Brian House, the only children’s hospice on the Fylde coast, provides specialist care and respite for children with life-limiting conditions. Their services, offered completely free of charge, support families through some of their most challenging times.
The Kentown Wizard Foundation has proudly supported Brian House since 2015 and has been the main sponsor of the Santa Dash for several years. Our founder, Ken Townsley, was affectionately dubbed the hospice’s ‘Secret Santa’ after covering the cost of the event, ensuring that every penny raised goes directly to supporting the children and families who need it most.
Linzi Warburton, Head of Fundraising at Brian House Children’s Hospice, said:
“We’re overwhelmed by the continued support from our community and partners like The Kentown Wizard Foundation. The funds raised from the Santa Dash are vital in helping us provide care and comfort to local families facing unimaginable challenges.”
As always, participants were treated to a complimentary Santa suit, a finisher’s medal, and a warming hot chocolate upon completion of the 3km route. This year’s dash also featured a festive prize draw, adding an extra sprinkle of excitement to the event.
Debbie Bamber, Operations Manager at The Kentown Wizard Foundation, said:
“The Santa Dash holds a special place in our hearts. Seeing the community come together year after year, all dressed up and full of festive spirit, is truly heartwarming. We’re honoured to support Brian House and the incredible work they do.”
Here’s to many more years of festive fun and fundraising!
